R&S Your engagement story
S&R Roman had a day off work and he was desperate for me to call in “sick” so that we could spend the day together. He painted this picture in my head of a really fun date day up in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Although I’m usually someone who never calls in sick, even when I actually am, this day I decided to do it (sorry boss!).
We spent the day exploring the Blue Mountains and then on the way home Roman said there was a lookout his friend from work told him about that’s less touristy so we decided to go check it out. As we started getting closer to the lookout I noticed a picnic was set up but I also noticed a couple doing a photoshoot so I thought that they had just got engaged. But Roman held my hand and we starting walking to the picnic and it turns out that he was proposing to me. Roman did so well, it caught me completely off guard and the view was really incredible!

Sophie and Roman were married on The Round Bar Lawn
R&S When planning your wedding what was most important to you?
S&R We knew that our wedding was going to be the only day in our lives that we can bring together all family and friends from both sides, near and far, in one spot. So we wanted to create a day that was unforgettable. We really worked hard to create a day that was fun, relaxed and just a big celebration.
R&S What have your guests commented on the most since your wedding?
S&R Our MC, Joe Swanney. We are forever grateful for how he entertained and created an atmosphere that both families really enjoyed.
R&S Who was the vendor you are glad you invested in?
S&R Our photographer and videographer 1000%!! David and Ben are the ultimate duo. They work so well together and the vibes are unmatched. We felt so comfortable and relaxed with them. It’s important to get a photographer and videographer that you love because they are the ones that are going to be with you throughout the whole day capturing the memories for you.

R&S What went into or what was important to you when choosing your menu?
S&R We wanted variety! A bit of everything so there was something for everyone to enjoy.
R&S Was there anything unique you incorporated into your day that made it extra special?
S&R Sparklers on the dance floor while we did our first dance. We aren’t fans of being centre of attention so doing a first dance wasn’t something we were looking forward too! The sparklers meant our guests could get involved and they weren’t completely focused on us haha.
R&S What is the one piece of advice you would give to future R&S couples?
S&R Get a DJ!! Even if it’s just someone that does it as a side hussle. I remember Paula telling us when we were doing a walk through the venue that a DJ really does create a fun atmosphere and it’s so true! It was so much better than a Spotify playlist.

Left: Sophie’s Dad making an entrance
Right: Our favourite MC of all time!
R&S What initially drew you to Rose & Smith and what made you book?
S&R We loved the white walls and chandeliers. It’s such a stunning venue that literally needs nothing to make it look beautiful. We decided to keep our reception decor very basic and let the venue itself do the talking.
Although the venue is stunning what actually made us book was Paula. Paula does a phenomenal job at running the events at Rose & Smith. She is so knowledgeable and relaxed it truely makes the experience of planning a wedding enjoyable. I knew when I met her that we could rely on her and trust her to help create our dream wedding day. Paula went above and beyond on the day and it was so seamless and there were no hiccups (or maybe there was but we just didn’t know).
R&S Anything else you would like to add about your Rose & Smith experience.
S&R You need the cheeseburgers at 10:30pm!! Enough said.

END NOTE
Sophie and Roman, your wedding was just so full of love and joy!
Sophie, I was so excited when you flew down from Auckland to meet us and right from the start knew you wanted a simple wedding – that was more about the people than minor details. Well, you certainly created that and more! From your Dad marrying you, to the most amazing bridal party, the sweetest groom ever, and of course the best MC in history! – I will never forget Swanney announcing dinner service with “Paula… Bring out the beef!”
It really was the most amazing day, we all still talk about you and your fabulous guests.
Lots of love,
Px
