Alana & Calan

R&S: Your engagement story

A&C: We have been together since we were 15 (Alana) and 17 (Calan) years old, so we were together for quite some time before getting engaged! We love visiting Paekakariki Beach to go for walks along the beach so that’s exactly where we went the morning of our 9 year anniversary of being a couple. During that walk, Cal proposed! We had initially planned to get married exactly one year later on our 10 year anniversary, but we got pregnant with our beautiful daughter so decided to wait a couple more years 🙂

Alana and Calan were married in The Round Bar

R&S: When planning your wedding what was most important to you?

A&C: We made a list of most important to least important! Cal most important was food (classic haha), photos & everyone+us enjoying themselves, Alana’s was photography/videography and everyone having a great time.

R&S: What have your guests commented on the most since your wedding?

A&C: Our beautiful photos, our wedding video and the food that was served at the wedding!

R&S: Who was the vendor you are glad you invested in?

A&C: At the time we were planning the wedding, we lived in Melbourne. For that reason I am most glad we chose Rose & Smith as our venue – all the alcohol, catering, props, decor, equipment, vendor recommendations & more were all done through Paula at Rose & Smith, so it really took the pressure off us having to arrange that whilst being overseas!

R&S: What went into or what was important to you when choosing your menu?

A&C: Cal chose all the food we put on our menu! We wanted to pick classics that everyone would enjoy. We weren’t able to attend the Rose and Smith food/alcohol tasting weekend, so 6 of our friends went for us. Overall, they were really impressed with all of the food, so the feedback they gave us is that we really couldn’t go wrong when it came to choosing the Wedding menu.

R&S: Was there anything unique you incorporated into your day that made it extra special?

A&C: We decided to walk down the aisle together with our daughter who was 18 months old at the time. We also chose to do photos before the ceremony and that was the best decision! It meant that we were able to be a part of the “cocktails and canapes” hour instead of being out for photos, so overall we spent more time with our guests.

R&S: What is the one piece of advice you would give to future R&S couples?

A&C: 1. The day goes so incredibly quickly! Be in the moment, enjoy yourselves and don’t stress over any little hiccups that may occur.

2. The only thing (except for marriage of course) you walk away with are your photos & video – invest in a good photographer and/or videographer if this is important to you.

R&S: What initially drew you to Rose & Smith and what made you book?

A&C: A lot of friends of ours had attended weddings at Rose & Smith which is how we originally heard about it. After viewing it in person and meeting Paula we decided it was the one.

R&S: Anything else you would like to add about your Rose & Smith experience.

A&C: The whole experience was really easy and seamless. There was a storm on our wedding day, so a few changes had to be made at the last minute. Paula was there to make all of those changes and manage all the things that we didn’t have time to manage. Thank you Paula, you are the best xx

END NOTE

Alana and Calan, two of the most stylish people who had such a wonderful vision for their day. Planning a wedding from overseas can be a challenge, but you guys made it so easy with superb organisation and wonderful ideas. I absolutely loved your whole aesthetic right down to the colour scheme for your guests. Everything about your day was absolutely beautiful and you handled everything so well, even the rain! My favourite photo is the 2 of you holding your adorable daughter, such a special family photo.

Lots of love,
